MDC 50' coaches: diameter roof vents?

I have 12 MDC 50’ pullman/overland passenger car kits and wondered what diameter of hand drill to use to drill through the roofs to attach the 6 roof vents to each floor. some of the cars have the holes already drilled for the vents but i still do not know what diameter of hole to drill through the undrilled roofs.

There are 2 easy ways to figure this out.

  1. Try fitting various sizes of drills into the holes already there and use the drill bit with the closest match, but easily slides.

  2. Measure the OD of the stack with a good ruler or I use a set of calipers. With that measurement, I use my calipers on various drill bits and match the measurements.

Keep in mind that you can always make the hole bigger.
