MDC loco kits no longer being produced?

I’ve been looking to see if I can find roundhouse steam engine kits and I can’t find any info any more. I have even checked the Horizon Hobby site. It’s looking like the only kits available are from Bowser. [:(]

There are still kits availible if you look around on the Internet. Check Discount Model Trains and Internet Model Trains. I picked up three acouple months ago on eBay. IF you watch, you can find the newer ones with can motors.

I’ve been watching e-Bay and have bidded on a few but haven’t won a bid yet. I’m quite busy working on the layout right now and don’t really have time for a loco kit yet but I’m afraid if I wait too long to get one that they will all be gone!

I would try to get to some of the train shows.
Enjoy

They don’t seem to be drying up anytime soon. What are you looking for?

I have not read any definitive statement from Horizon about the future status of these kits, so maybe they are being considered for upgrades.

For some reason there are thousands of these kits around, I have no idea why there are so many, I was in a hobby shop and the owner had mdc stuff piled to the ceiling. I don’t know where it is coming from, anyone know??/

I won a HOn3 kit on eBay, and thus I would reccommend checking eBay for good deals on these kits

I’ve got a pile of them. Which ones are you looking for? Maybe we can make a deal.

Athearn recieved about 2 1/2 truckloads from MDC of kits and parts.

They will be handling the MDC line, their just kinda inbetween things getting things ready, just like Horizon buying Athearn out, the changes are quirky for now. Just wait some and it will all return.

E-BAY works for me,just finished building a roundhouse two truck shay,I bought on E-BAY.All you have to do is look around like Chip said,[^]

Sorry I’ve been so long in reply, I had 3 weddings to do this weekend. I’m looking for steam engine kits, smaller engines like Mikes and under. I’m not desperate just been looking around and it seems like they are harder and harder to find.
I’m getting a whole bunch of AMtrak stuff this summer, and I can’t use it, so I’m going to trade or sell it to get money to get some good kits.

My second HO loco was a MDC 0-6-0. A reasonably good runner back in the 50’s but a little noisey.

I’am a shay nut I just got one from E-BAY and have it about finished, friday just placed a bid on a thrid one,the first thing I do when I receive them is to put an can motor in them, they require a little tinkering to get them to run,My first roundhouse is 20years old and still running good.[^]

There’s plenty of old MDC kits floating out there on shelves still. but Horizon has stated That New MDC items will be RTR and Roundhouse Items will be Kits. They are taking the old Molds and Improving them.

Talked to my LHS guy today at the train show, apparently what’s out there now is all there’s goign to be. The cutoff year will be 1942 - Pre-1942 equipment will be sold by Horizon under the Roundhouse name, but RTR only - same old timer steam locos and so forth, but in RTR form, no kits. Post-1942 models will be under the Athearn name. Athearn kits will remain, but probably not as many as before as they also are moving more towards RTR.

In other news, supposedly Bowser is going to release RTR vrsions of Stewart locos - all the details will already be applied, and they will have numbers. F units will have handrails, no more need for the DA detailing kits.
