Just wondering if anyone knows if Roundhouse is still in business?
They were purchased by Athearn I believe and then Horizon purchased both product lines and some of the products are offered even today.
Please go ahead and correct me if I don’t remember this buy out correctly. .
MDC was purchased by Horizon. Most of the steam and modern era models are now being produced under the Athearn banner. The Old-Timer models are still released under the MDC name.

MDC / Roundhouse is not in business. As stated before, they were consumed by Horizon. Athearn has released some of the old Roundhouse models using both the Athearn (post-WWII prototype) and Roundhouse (pre-WWII prototype) names. The new models usually feature some upgrades (metal wheels and weighted to NMRA specs). Most of the MDC line is currently out of production and nobody knows if, or when, items such as the steam locomotives will ever be produced again. Parts do not seem to be available at all.
Some hobby shops still have a large selection of MDC/Roundhouse gear, I model in N and was a fan of their kits (for weathering) they were quite reasonable…
MIke…
Roundhouse (Horizon) has released a number of RTRs recently of their early rolling stock. Even though I prefer kits, it’s still nice to see some of the older 36’ flat cars and reefers that no one else seems to want to make.

My LHS has a very good selection of MDC stuff. I have several of their Harriman-type 60’ers. I wi***heir instructions warned about using them on anything less than 26" radius.
Athearn Bought Them Earlier this Year.I Think About 90 days Ago.
Horizon Hobbies bought Athearn and then they bought MDC/Roundhouse. They closed done the facility that MDC had and shipped all of their inventory, tooling, etc. to the Athearn facility. The old time line is being made RTR and marketed under the MDC/Roundhouse name. Supposedly their modern line will be folded into the Athearn line and marketed as Athearn.
Enjoy

Well, that pretty much answers that question. Thanks guys. I was just noticing that there aren’t too many of the old R-T-R 2 truck Shays around anymore and couldn’t find Roundhouse on a Google.
Again Thanks[:)]
Horizon releases old-time cars(Steam era) in Roundhouse RTR. Modern-day roundhouse molds are released under Athearn RTR. (Such as Railboxes, etc.)
The reason for the buyout is simply because the owner of MDC/Roundhouse wanted to retire and sold the business. Before you ask Life Like’s 'train and slot car business was bought by Walthers and Bowser bought Stewart…So,there is no evil in Horizon,Bowser or Walthers buying manufacturers…Look for more buyouts in the future.
