MDC- Roundhouse ??

I remember hearing that MDC was bought out, but are there kits still being made or are the kits that are out just the end of there production ?

Thanks Mark

yes Model Die Casting was purchased by Horizon Hobby, the same company that purchased Athearn. Looking at the website, it would depend on what type of kit that you are looking for. Perhaps they will continue to “tool up” and revive some of the kits, but I noticed that the locomotive kits are not there. Time will tell

Their old timer kits appear to not be in production currently, but are available RTR.

Athearn released an email a few months ago explaining what was going to happen to the Roundhouse line. In a nutshell, the modern stuff would be folded into the Athearn brand and released as kits and RTR (heavy on the RTR). The steam-era freight cars would be released as RTR only. No decision had yet been made on the passenger cars and steam kits. I suspect that the passenger cars will be RTR only, and the steam will be retired, or released in VERY limited numbers of RTR, and only one or two types a year.

Athearn has just updated their web site Athearn.com, complete with pictures. You might want to look there for more information on “Roundhouse” product availability.

Don’t know how much stock MDC had in the pipeline when they were bought by Athearn & the boxes moved to the Athearn facility. You see some good deals at some Etailers. Some of them appear in the pages of MR or MRC for time to time.

On the Nscale side, the new product has improved trucks/couplers & paint schemes. I don’t think very much was needed on the HO scale line.
