I just received Athearn’s latest newsletter. They are offering some former MDC kits under the Athearn name now. I guess MDC will exist no more.
I read the message as well at the bottom of the page it says that the M D C oldtime stuff will be marketed under the M D C mane, thats good for me .
A previous announcement indicated that the MDC name would be used for kits, and Athearn for Ready-to-Run items. Athearn’s new Web site makes no mention of the MDC brand name at all, so they or Horizon Hobbies may have decided otherwise.
I’m glad they’ll still be around.
Most of my freight cars are either MDC or Athearn. All the problems that I’ve had with freight cars have always been with the Athearns! My MDC cars, other than filing off flashing from the metal underframes, have not given me problems at all.
Cheers!
I guess consolidation and realignment is really the next logical step.It makes perfect business sense. The two were always fairly similar anyway, but MDC was always the lesser in sales, not necessarily quality.
I had better tell my dentist when I go in on Wednesday. I was in a couple weeks ago to get fitted for a crown. We had gotten to talking (he was talking, I was mumbeling) that he had bought a Roundhouse steam engine kit, but his young son had opened it and the parts went flying. I told him the Horizon story, and suggested that he get squared away soon, just in case.
On the other hand, it might just be easier for him to take my money and buy another one.[:(][banghead][sigh][:P][;)][(-D][(-D][(-D]
I reread the announcement and found that. I guess the lesson to be learned is, don’t make postings when you should be asleep. I will be changing the title of this thread for “Goodbye, MDC/Roundhouse” to “MDC/Roundhouse” in order to avoid starting panic and riots. However, it looks like these are kits that will be offered under the Athearn name.
