does any one know if mdc’s 50 foot passenger cars and model power’s 48 foot coaches are based on prototype cars or are they made up too from someone’s imagination. i figure a small number of mdc’s 50 passenger cars would be best thing for my railroad
The MDC, now Roundhouse, 50 foot coach with the duckbill roof is very similar to the Pullman Pioneer.
MDC’s line of 50-foot Overland passenger cars (not the OverTON shorties) are very close to many passenger cars built between 1870-1890. More importantly, they’re easily kitbashed into just about any old wood heavyweight car you want.
Athearn says that they’ll be releasing these cars as RTR in the near future, but they have no plans to issue any kits (especially undec). Too bad for them: the cars are going for as little as $4 apiece on Ebay (I just picked up 20 of the Overlands and Pullman Palace cars for less than $100)
