Measurements in HO

Howdy all, I have searched the forums here and didnt find my answer so I figured I’d ask.

In HO scale, what is the measurement fot 1 foot in scale? Planning on building my own oil rig from an old kit, but kitbashing it to make it look more modern, and from what I hear they are susally about 105 ft total.

Thanks

One 87th of an inch to get the inch length, and then multiply by 12 to get the foot. Comes to about 0.137 of an inch, or about 1/7th.

HO, by definition is 3.5 mm to a foot, or 1:87.1

The 105 ft would be 367.5 mm or 14.5 inches.

Crandell and Nigel hsve given good responses, remember that there are also companies out there who offer HO scale rulers, as well as rulers for other scales

Save a lot of headaches, get a scale rule.

Much simpler to take the “real” length and just divide by 87, making shure to convert to inches.

Something I did that may be helpful was to get the true sizes for pipe and flange outside dimensions and then made a chart with these sizes converted to HO scale(my scale modeled) could be done to any scale. I use a digital caliper to get my measurements. and try to use itemsf ound around the house For instance, a coat hangar measuring .091" scales out to 7.917" or round to 8" pipe. I model a chemical plant so the chart of pipe and flange sizes is very helpful. I also make my trestle piles with 1/8" wooden dowel scales to 10.875" close enough for me to represent a 1 foot round pole. Looks ok to me. I drive some spikes into a piece of shelving wood to align and space the piles then glue 1/4" craft sticks crossways top, middle and about an inch from the bottom. works for me and very economical.

There is a handy scale converter I use at the following web page…

This calculator does what your looking for in any scale
