I developed an 18,000 mile class 1 railroad stretching from the Atlantic coast to the Missouri River and Mexico. I only model a small part of the system but the connection to the rest of the system gives me the opportunity to have the loco, cars and trains a region railroad could not support.
The portion I decided to model was from Milwaukee Wisconsin to Arrowhead Yard in the south western Suburbs of Chicagoland. There is also a line to Madison with a connection to Minneapolis and a line to Green Bay.
Help me out with this. You are saying that your A&GW is a 50-year old imaginary prototype railroad. There was an actual Atlantic & Great Western Railroad that was created in 1853. Is your imaginary prototype related to the actual A&GW?
Hi Rich:
I was inspired by the Utah Belt and Virginian and Ohio railroads and I was searching for a name. My brother John came up with the AGW name. I’m not sure what his inspiration was. I used the name for many years until I found out there really was a AGW from 1860-1880. It is now part of my history. In my alternate reality the AGW stayed independent and thrived. Thanks for the interest.
Roger.
Ahh, I love the story. It is a cool name for a railroad. I watched a few of your views. The shots of your layout look great. Can you post a track plan?
Being a lifelong Chicagoan, I would love to see your track plan to see where you located the fictitious Arrowhead Yard in southwest suburbs. Is it your own track or have your purchased trackage rights for those various routes?
Ah, nuts, we’re getting the silent treatment from Roger. I have looked through several of his A&GW but so far no luck finding an answer to my question.
