Hello all
i have 3 sets from MEHANO company and i buy a new 2-8-4 MOUNTAIN, how can i use steam for MOUNTAIN 2-8-4? i hear from SEUTHE germany can i buy something like this.
It is possible to upgrade the 1st tree sets i buy? the sets are from train line that means is more or less a toy.
MEHANO trains can upgrade the couplers or something else?

Yes you can add a Seuthe steam generator to any steam engine if it will fit. Either Seuthe or a local hobby shop should be able to help you find the right one. Most of us find that the smoke generated causes other problems as it falls on the rails causing electrical contact problems as well as minor air polution in confined spaces. A local hobby shop should also help you pick the right Kadee coupler for you engines. Most of us use Kadee only. It is the first knuckle coupler and the best hands down.
I have 11 Mehano’s, four of which are 4-8-2 Mountains. No. 5 Kadee’s will fit in the tender pocket without trouble. However the pilot coupler is another story. I have had to use a modified overset long shanked Kadee that has been shaped (offset downward) and cropped/drilled so to fit in the pocket.
As to the smoke unit. The general consensus amongst most of us on this forum (speek up or forever hold your pieces guys) is the smoke units will dirty up your engines and track resulting in lots of cleaning and smoke that looks “iffy”. Some units will over heat and melt the shell if you let the oil run out.

The smoking loco I had also had a habit of spitting unburned smoke oil all over the loco, the following cars, rails, furniture and just about anything else within 3 or 4 feet of the track. The smoke didn’t amount to much more than cigarette like smoke trail for all it’s hassles I wouldn’t bother with smoke generator(s) or go out of my way to buy anything pre-equipped with one.
