Mel Thornburg Articles

Fellas,

I need two articles from old Model Railroaders, written by Mel Thornburg. 1st one is Thornburg Builds a Wabash Mogul and the 2nd one is Thornburg builds a B&O Consolidation. Need complete articles to complete a couple of projects.

Thanks

Mick

What years and issues, unless your a fan of Mels one has no idea where to look and as I am trowing out tons of old mr’s I could look as I toss.

I know Mel’s articles goes back to the 50s!

A search of the index http://index.mrmag.com/ should help you find which issues.
Enjoy

If the Wabash Mogul interests you (as I recall they stayed in steam longer than most Wabash steam due to a bridge that had a low axle loading capacity), be aware that Kemtron made brass parts for that engine, maybe the entire kit, back in the 50s and early 60s, and from time to time you see them for sale at swap meets, sometimes in the form of projects that were begun but dropped.

The HO scale modelers at the Boothbay Railway Museum in Maine have a large collection of MR’s going back to the 50s that were donated earlier this year. If you have a better idea of when the articles were published, we probably have it in our collection.

The first installment of the Mogul article appeared in the January 1959 issue of MR page 41. This issue happens to also be the 25th anniversary issue of MR. Peter Smith, Memphis

You might try starting here to find out when the various articles were published (the Wabash Mogul series started in the January, 1959 MR):

Hope this helps.

We checked the Boothbay RR collection at our meeting last night, and Murphy strikes again! Of all the magazines from the late 50s and early 60s, the Jan '59 is the only one missing. Sorry

We do have some of the others listed in the link in andrechaplon’s posting.

Looks like the consol article ran from October 1945 to April 1946. I can check on availability of these if you are still interested.
