melting plastics

well after trying for a while different ways to remove old paint , i gave the brake fluid a try and was amazed at the results… One question though, will this stuff leave all the plastics of the world alone… I used and old Riva Rossi Sw1200 and i have an Atlas box car soaking.

Have you used this on Kato or MicroTrains or any other makes with good results , sure would hate to melt an intermountian FT

Thanks

Whatever you do, don’t dunk a Kato shell into brake fluid. the ABS plastic (or whatever type of plastic it is) will become brittle and shatter on handling. If all of your shells are styrene, brake fluid will work fine, in my experience. A bit stinky, but it works. [:)]

Don’t leave the loco in very long. I tried to strip an early Walthers switcher and it crazed the plastic. There other products for stripping model paint that are safer.
