Memphis Central Station anniversary celebration planned Oct. 3-5

Memphis Union Station would have celebrated an anniversary of 102 years last Spring. The Beaux-arte station was completed and opened just two weeks before the tragic sinking of the Titanic in April 1912. The main waiting room was adorned with an assortment of marble masonry with the building’s exterior, including columns, of Tennessee limestone.

Unfortunately, MUS was demolished in 1969 one year after the last scheduled passenger train, Southern Railway’s remnant of the Tennessean. departed for Chattanooga.
