Menard's has Homasote!

Yup. I was in Menard’s this morning, and there it was right in front. (They had rearranged the whole lumber department, nothing was where anything used to be.)

I commented on this to the clerk, and then to test him out I asked him about the Homasote. No Clue! He did not know what it was. I pointed out to him: there it was. Clearly marked as Homasote. But of course if I had asked for “sound board” he would have know what that was.

So if you want Homasote, you still have to ask for “sound-board”.

ROAR

WOOT!

Out in these parts it is known as building board or sound board.[^o)]

The Menards in Rochester has had it for a number of years - Both ‘sheet’ stock(4x8) and ‘Handy’ panels(2x4) are available.

Not the least of the things that make the 2’ x 4’ size “handy” is transporting the stuff home and getting it down the basement stairs.

By the way because homasote is somewhat prone to cracking when not handled correctly (and if the fellows at Menards or similar stores don’t know what it is, they might think it has more structural strength than it actually does) you can also sometimes find homasote in the “damaged goods” section of a Mendards selling for very attractive prices.
