And a Merry christmas to you, sir!
PS: Cool shot of those trolley buses!
I remember the trolley busses when I was there at UD in the 60’s, but the old Union Station had been replaced by a new station on an elevated viaduct thru town. I came into town on both the NYC and PRR, but the last time I left town was on the PC.
New 2015 Duel Mode model that can run off wire.
I’m guessing that’s going to be the standard. Philadelphia’s current trackless trolley fleet, which I believe is from 2008, also have diesel engines. I’ve ridden them in diesel mode for a block or two on construction detours, and seen them running at times when there was no apparent need for diesel.
http://www.phillytrolley.org/Kiepe_Trackless_Brochure.pdf apparently written before delivery, mentions “EPU diesel generator-set”.
Interesting, even more so if there’s a diesel engine hidden in there. You see, Public Service Coordinated Transport of New Jersey beat 'em to it by almost 70 years. Back in the post-war era Public Service had a fleet of what they called ASV’s, or All Service Vehicles. They ran off trolley wires where available and where they weren’t they had on-board gasolene engines driving generators to provide the juice.
Pretty good, what goes around comes around.
Fencing with the trolley poles? [}:)]
Larry, your riposte is better than mine would have been; I would have asked something like “fighting buses?”
Thanks Chessie Cat I lived in Dayton for many years and jumped Chessie freights all up and down the line for years. Oops! Now I’m busted! Thanks for the memories
