If I ever got my workbench this clean and organized, my wife would ask. “Who are you, and what have you done with my husband?” [(-D]
I’d take a picture, but I can’t find the camera![;)]

That’s partly true Truck,
I wish I knew where everything was. The other part is true.
Although I am going to get some more storage boxes today because this thread has inspired me to do better. I don’t think I’ll ever get to Gary’s Heartland tidiness level.
cheers

Spice racks are great for holding paint bottles, and you can get ugly ones cheap.
No photos because I burnt the camera battery at holiday festivities.
My workbench, on one of its better days. Honest, it gets worse than this.

Jim, I like your lame attempt at getting organized. That, and the saws in case you want to saw something! [(-D]
Me, I’d just build one but not everyone has the appropriate tools. I’m kind of fortunate that way with lots of tools and lots of experience building furniture.

I must agree with your description of the computer too Jim
Truck.
How did you get a picture of my workbench? Oh wait there is not enough stuff on it. It can’t be mine. On mine there are 3 turnouts in various stages of assembly, Four locos in various stages of repair and modifications/ decoder instals, Two structures, one being assembled and the other getting lighting. Wire, tools, parts, and paints. All in an area 4 foot by 3 foot. Oh ya the trash can is full too. For some strange reason the only things that ever gets lost is those little coupler springs and the occasional grab iron that flicks out of the tweezers into the other dimension.
Insert theme to Twilight Zone here.[8]

I store a lot of stuff in 5 drawer towers made by a company called Gracious Living. They are on casters and can be rolled around. They also make some smaller ones that fit perfect on my work bench. Never pay retail. Up here in Canada they are on sale all the time at Canadian Tire, usually for 1/2 price. I use an old ice cube tray for small parts when I’m working on a loco.
An ice cube tray, what a great idea. Something I never thought of but will be putting to good use very shortly. Thanks for the idea!

I gave up and skirted the layout. It looks great so long as no one lifts the skirt.
Doesn’t the coolaid make them sticky and rusty? [(-D]
Seriously good idea.

Wow…almost three pages and only one brief mention of tackle boxes. Being a proffesional fishing guide, this was the first place I turned, as I have ample supply of boxes and an even better knowledge of what is available if I see the need for them.
The boxes I’ve been using aren’t the big box and drawer type, but rather the thinner, clear ones with dividable compartments (Plano’s Stowaway Utility Boxes). Many sizes and styles are available. They stack neatly too.
While I didn’t mention tackle boxes, the tool boxes I refered to for parts, paints, people, etc. is the type that has a clear snap lid on top covering an array of compartments of differing sizes {meant I guess for things like screws, bolts, nails or small tool parts}.
Then there is the tray inside the tool box before having the base of the tool box empty for larger items.
I have two of those. I have a third one that has various aquarium stuff and odds and ends of fish stuff in it that, since I am retiring from aquarium keeping, Shall be newly relegated to trains.
Your welcome. I have two of them I bought at the dollar store and use them for my slot cars too. I labeled a few of the slots coupler pockets, front body, rear body with a Sharpie that way I can never mix up what screw goes in what spot.
The Coolaid provides extra weathering, lol. I got the idea from a friend of mine. He labeled his tray with a big F and R to represent the front and rear of the loco he is working on. That way he knows what screws and parts are suppose to go in what spot.
I’ve got one of those I use for parts like couplers, wheels and screws and keep it in my tool box when I go to shows with my club layout. I use them for parts for my slot cars too. They are great for storing extra wheels, tires, gears etc and fit perfectly in my pit boxes.
I guess I’m a fortunate man…I am able to keep all my tools I need in a 3 tray tackle box with small plastic fly boxes for couplers and trucks.I keep my paint in the top and bottom parts of a BB GP38-2 box…I keep my Dremels and the needed accessories in a small tackle box.
I also have a Athearn box I keep 3 small screw drivers,a NMRA gauge, wheel sets,KD couplers and springs in for emergency use at the club.,
