Metal filler

I am modifying a metal Mantua boiler & am not sure what to use for filler. I have to remove some things & fill some voids. Any suggestions? Thanks

Regular Bondo (auto body filler) will work just fine…Mike

J B Weld

Never tried bondo except on cars. Steered away because of the large quantity & high price you have to pay. Is there somewhere you can get smaller quantities? Thanks

Apparently AutoZone (and probably other retailers) sell 3oz tubes of Bondo, in addition to 1 pint sizes. Can’t get much smaller sized than that.

If you don’t want Bondo, what’s the problem with Squadron White putty (which may cost more than Bondo per unit) - I’ve used it on metal models to good effect.

Finally, another method that can be a bit messy - CA glue + CA Accelerator fills voids and is filable/shapable (if a bit fussy).

If it must be a metal fill, then as mentioned JB Weld (there are several types, including JB Quik I think).

JB Weld will work fine for the job. It’s a two part epoxy and you can mix as much or as little as you need. To keep it from sagging in an opening that’s being filled just apply a piece of masking tape to the back side of the hole. Once the epoxy has dried you can take the tape off.
