You all knew it was commin! To big Comuter Systems, post away everyone!
Another one!!! It’s spreading like an epidemic!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH…
I will be taking Metra from Aurora tomorrow morning to catch Amtrak #7 to LaCrosse and back from CUS on Tuesday when I disembark from Amtrak #8 at CUS upon my return.
Did he say something about commies?
Well the second sentence appears to be a toast to some corporation. Aye, raise your glasses to the great and powerful Comuter Systems, and all it has accomplished in the field of…whatever it does!
Congratulations Amtrak, for finally making commuter service accesible to everyone. Sample rider: “Awww jeez, I work in Portland but I would rather live in the Midwest. Thanks to Amtrak’s Commuter Service, I can get between home and work in three days!”
what about Caltrain???
I watched the westbound rush on the BNSF Racetrack in Naperville this afternoon. I usually don’t have this chance as I work second-shift (I’m on a much needed vacation this week). I watched from both the station platform & the overhead bridge just east of the station that is directly over the E. Naperville Interlocker. I think that I learned something new, but I’m not sure. The BNSF Racetrack dispatcher was using all three tracks for westbound Metra dinkies and Amtraks Illinois Zeph. All three! At least two westbound dinkies made station stops on the south platform (track #3), I didn’t know that was done. Is this normal? The speakers on the platform kept blaring that trains were operating up to eight minutes late due to track work. Also, worth noting is the two new MP36’s that both worked the long (11 cars) Naperville/Rt 59 express trains. I really like the raw sound of those engines.

O MAN! the sound of the MP36 is beautiful! i love getting off a caltrain heading north and standing by it as the MP pushes! Very ground shaking!
Agreed, I watched for a few minutes yesterday inside CUS as an MP backed onto it’s train and what a sound it made!
Standing next to a MP36 is one thing… Being on top of a bridge with it going directly underneath you is another. Try it sometime and you’ll see what I mean.

A coughy event or a sizzle event?
Yep, tasted the diesel fumes and felt the heat!

I sure wish they’d install some outdoor benches by the station in downtown Naperville, like they have in most other places. For commuters and trainwatchers alike.
Maybe they could put one on the south side close to the front door of the tavern so we’d have only a 100-foot walk on a hot day. [:D]
yo Amtrak rules. i wish we had service here in Eau Claire, because they may be boring to watch, but they’re incredibly fun to ride!
The benches at the Oak Lawn station are pretty comfortable, but action on the Southwest line consists of 30 Metra trains per day, a tri-weekly freight turn to Manhattan and irregular transfers in and out of Landers to the IHB at Chicago Ridge.
