Granted the Dan Ryan line is outdoors in a harsh climate, but a complete rebuild after only 40 years? Most of the original IRT subway in NYC has never had a complete rebuild in 109 years.
If the article is to be believed, the only things not being rebuilt are signals, switches, power and comm lines and other equipment. Hopefully that’s wrong! Hopefully they are putting in the best of modern systems.
