METRA F40PH detail questions

i just picked up a walthers Trainline Metra F40PH and i am trying to add soem detail, but i cant find a couple of parts.

here is a picture

what i am trying to find is an air conditioner like the ones on the roof. you see them on motorhomes all the time, but i cant find a model of one. also, i need to know if anyone makes a pilot like the one on these locomotives. it probibly wouldnt be too hard to make, but i would rather have one already made.

of course, the walthers model is unit number 175, and i cant find any pictures of that one.

Hey guy! I’m assuming thay you’ve checked Details West. That is an unusual pilot. If DW doesn’t make one that comes close, you may have to go the scratchbuilding route with styrene.

Check the Walthers catalog on the air conditoner unit. Perhaps a tractor trailer “reefers” (older style) a/c unit might come close enough where you can do some minor modification.

I know what you’re going through with your “cowl”. I want “see thru” radiator and dynamic brake grills on one of my FP-45s. Nobody makes them so I’m cutting out the plastic and will be installing metal “grill” material that appears reasonably close to the prototype. I will also be equipping it with the Soundtraxx Tsunami decoder (if and when it comes available!). Best wishes to you!

Try to search for “Metra #175” at google.com. I found that slide there:

And like you can see, the engine has no air conditioner.

Micha

The air conditioners looks like this that was used at older motor homes (WINNEBAGO or so). Possible that you will find this detail in detailing parts for modelcars. I know that Preiser have a ac in a superdetail set, but absolute different!

thanks for the picture Micha. i couldnt find one anywhere.

so far it is coning along pretty well. there are still tons of details to add. i decided to go with all working lights on it so i added the ditchlights, reversing lights, and the cab light.

it sure would be nice if someone would make a high quality F40PH. i am tired of having to choose between the godawful Botchmann and the no-detail Walthers
