Metra train 1266, inbound from Aurora to Chicago Union Station hit and killed a pedestrian along the south platform at Naperville station this afternoon. I was having lunch at the River Road crossing (west of Naperville by about a mile or so) when 1266 passed me before stopping at Naperville. A few minutes after passing me he radioed the BNSF East End dispatcher that he had stopped in emergency due to hitting a pedestrian and asked for an ambulance (which mad me think at first that the pedestrians injuries were not too bad). My suspicions/hopes were proved to be wrong when I drove by Naperville station out of pure curiosity and briefly saw a body covered in a white sheet on the platform. While upset personally at this sight, my feelings are naturally insignificant when compared to those of the family and friends of the victim and (of course) those of the poor Metra engineer. Please join me in a silent prayer for all involved in this tragic event.
