Electric District

The proposal for expanded rapid-transit type service on the former IC lines was first brought up in the mid-1990’s. It’s notable for a lack of proposals for funding, fare issues, labor matters, etc.

The colition really has no idea what the technical issues preventing the present electric lines going through Union Station. Amtrak would never allow a DC CAT to be installed thru Union station. Amtrak probably will anticipate that the future will have a 25 Kv 60 Hz CAT for HSR. Now of course the METRA could buy dual voltage units ? Such as the M-8s the MNRR has purchased.

Based on my discussions with Amtrak’s engineering folks they will not accept the proposed ramp from CUS to the Air Line that is a key part of this proposal.
