What Metra engine do you like better and why?
Could we get one of each on the next CN 111 hotshot to Vancouver BC !!
What do you mean by that?
Either one is ok with me, but if I had to choose, I would take the new ones as they sound better (especially when in dynamic braking mode) and they have much better sounding horns.
I like the new engines. Besides being something different, the styling appeals to me.
402 looks lower and sleeker, though this may be partially due to the paint scheme.
Just that we don’t have that good looking types of loco’s up here , maybe we could get a look at the them on next CN through train from Chicago .
lol.
Oh Ick! Halloween is here! Left - clown - right Batman with Halloween orange!
Ick Ick!
Mookie, You better get on the citizen’s committee for the Omaha-Lincoln commuter service. Locomotive styling sub-committee. LOL
Jay
I don’t think I will live long enough to see the Omaha-Lincoln commuter service. Everything like that is always a long fiasco, followed by spending of tons of money followed by another fiasco and then nothing!
I am so pleased Omaha got their act together and did the convention center, even tho I miss the old UP park and the UP engines that were there.
Mookie
Prefer Halloween to Clown - Engine on left is just to garish.
Sorry Mookie, I don’t think that Lincoln-Omaha thing will go through for at least the next 20 years if ever. It’s such a wide open thing, and since they don’t have the tracks to get there it’s not looking too good. Oh by the way I like the Clown better. MARS LIGHT!
I like neither, I like the old F40PH and F40PH-2s, I’m not too fond of the F40PHM-2 but I still like it and the MP36PH-3 is neat but the good ole F40PH is the one for me.
Ataa way, mars light.
I agree with UPTRAIN, the F40s were the best!!! And that goes for Amtrak too.
I tell you what though, those new MP36PH-3S’s sure look sharp! The model # sure is a mouthful though… The Railpictures photo doesn’t do it justice though, especially next to the 40M!!! Check out the first picture I got of one of these, at Rondout:

The new one has style. I like that.
I like the F40C! That body style yelled out “speed and horsepower”!
These units look “interesting” but way too “Europeonish” for me. On the newer unit to the right that’s a K5La horn cluster on the roof. It’s arranged almost the same way as was on most of Amtrak’s F40s. If the horn is equipped with “choke fittings” it will sound slightly different.
No offense guys, but the roof shape on the newer unit is the weirdest I’ve ever seen on a locomotive since the “Krauss Mafei”. Looks like a giant upside down bread pan.
I like 193 because it is the classic metra paint scheme
In side profile,I prefer the MP36, but head on I’ll take the Modified F40.Gotta’ love that Mars light[:)].Also, the roof line coming down to the cab window in front, looks like a giant forehead with a massive headache!
