METRA's 40-year old FP-40s

Metra unveiled a special wrap on one of its F40PH locomotives, commemorating 40 years of continuous passenger service for the power mainstay of the Chicago agency’s passenger fleet.

Metra Chief Executive/Executive Director Don Orseno joined Metra Board Chairman Norm Carlson, incoming CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski, Metra staff and Bruce Nelson of the Shore Line Interurban Historical Society at Metra’s LaSalle Street Station Thursday to unveil the commemorative No. 100.

“These F40PHs have been in commuter service longer than any other locomotive type in North America,” said Orseno. “Their longevity is both a tribute to the excellence of our maintenance program and a commentary on the need to provide public transportation systems with a level of capital funding that allows us to continually renew our assets.”

Metra F40PH 100 wears a special wrap similar to its as-delivered RTA paint scheme to mark the models 40th year of service in Chicago commuter operations.

I remember when they were first delivered. They were assigned to the Rock Island District, which was probably in most need of new power and coaches. I also remember that the roof was the same blue as the rest of the carbody.

That is a great picture, and thanks. Like the blue roof as better, too.

This resurrection is a wrap over the standard scheme. It may be difficult to wrap the roof.
