Why did they replace concrete ties with wood ties?
concrete ties were installed during the construction of the MBTA’s Old Colony restoration in 1995-6. By 2010, concrete ties that should have lasted 50 years were breaking up. Lawsuits ensued. All ties on the entire line was replaced with wooden ties. I am guessing that Metro North had a similar experience with concrete ties on their lines.
