Metro-North RR

Does anyone know if Metro-North’s New Haven Line trains are available in HO?

These could be any version of the currently operated electric car pairs, M-3 to M-7. The prototype would have either MTA or ConnDOT markings in red/stainless and would be powered in both AC and DC (i.e., with pantograph).

Operating by pantograph is very difficult so I would not recomend it.

I model NJT so I like Imperial Hobby Productions, just google them. They make Arrow I II and III cars, and also the Metro North MU cars I think.

Thanks. It’s not that I want to operate the model using ovehead wire–too difficult in DCC. That is just the prototype.

I’m modeling Connecticut, not New Jersey. So NJ Transit’s equipment is no more appropriate than the Hudson or Harlem Lines of Metro-North.

I’m specifically looking for models of New Haven Line equipment.

Anyone know if this exists?

Well, there’s several FL9’s in the brass and resin formats (still running today…).

You can also use the Walthers Bombardier coaches, both in blue stripe and in orange stripe.

I think Overland made a P32ACDM for ConnDOT in NH paint. You could also use the Microscale decals and convert an Athearn AMD103 into one.

Imperial Hobby makes undecorated FL-9 shells, and a powered undec version. They also make GE M-2, M-4/M-6 MU Cars and MNCR Budd M-3 MU Cars.

Mike Bartel from IHP also has the Shoreliner III shells (AKA Horizon Cars with Center Door originally manufactured by Bombardier in 1996). These cars are available in both Coach with toilet, without toilet, and cab with toilet. There was also an article in one of the Model Railroaders or Railroad Model Craftsman which I forget that had an article to kitbash a Walthers car into a Comet IV cab. The Shoreliner IIIB, and IV versions for Metro North are vertually identical. The Shoreliner III/NJT Comet III was originally made by Frank Cicero in HO scale, and Mike took up the production from him.
