Metrolink, partners hold anti-suicide event

Is this really worthy of Trains Newswire?!

Norton,
Your “Is this really worthy of?”…explodes my reasoning.
What are you asking?
It’s unbelievable that you’d question that a story about “suicide by train” is irrelevant…unbelievable by someone who’s “brought the hammer down” on 5 suicides by locomotive.
Have you the courage to ask engrs. of the San Francisco peninsula commmute roster who approach or are at double digit events of suicide by train?
Jim Norton…what are you talking about?

This story is indeed very relevant. A retired former co-worker of mine committed suicide last year by walking out in front of a train. She had apparently ‘checked out’ the location in advance. Perhaps if she had seen one of these posters, she might still be with us today. Have the transit agencies considered extending their campaign to reach seniors, perhaps through AARP, Medicare, and related websites?

Jim Norton this story is as worthy as any others. Like Francis, I have had my share of “events”. Sure wish you could ride along with the crew when this happens. Wish you could hear the sound as the body goes under the locomotive. Wish you could be with the engineer after the stop wondering, wondering. Wish you could walk back with the conductor and look under the cars for the body parts. If the Metrolink program prevents one death it is worth it.

@Jim Norton: Have you been inhaling diesel fumes? Have you ever heard of a train engineer? He or she is the one that sees the whole thing. and can’t do anything about it. All they can do is to apply the emergency brakes and pray. Finally, after coming to a complete stop, they have to notify their supervisors and then they have to find the remains. Then, they have to go down for a blood, alcohol test After that, they go to psychological evaluation. Sometimes, they decide to quit because of what happened. So, Jim Norton, if you think that this incident doesn’t belong in this news blog. Then, I don’t know what does?

What is just plain stupid in any suicide attempt is WHAT IF IT FAILS? Many who have attempted suicide and failed to carry out their won executions will end up living with MORE grief, more pain, and more financial hardship all of their own making and have no grounds to file a lawsuit at all what soever. To those that say let’s ban trains, let’s ban high-rise buildings, let’s ban certain chemicals and drugs, etc., that is just as much as trying to ban guns, too. Anybody with suicide plans will get creative in any way possible to carry out their own execution, so imposing the bans of any kind to prevent them are useless.
