Mexian Intermodal

TFM has been experimenting with double stack intermodal trains on it’s Los Mochis to Chihuahua line. The frieght is mainy out of the pacific region going south or vise versa. I think that it is long over due and that this is just what will help the Mexican railroads grab the bull by the horns.

TFM handles tremendous amounts of intermodal over the Laredo gateway from UP , BNSF and KCS. There are ramps in Monterrey, San Luis Potosi, Aguascalientes, Queretaro, Pantaco (Mexico City), etc.

Watch the developments at the Port of Lazaro Cardenes. That’s the real sleeping giant that is starting to wake up. Right now there is service to Toluca, but watch that grow.

There is also interchage at El Paso to FXE going South.

The Port of Manzanillo handles some intermodal as well as Topolobompo. There is talk of a terminal at Ensenada, but I think Lazaro may stave that off.
