I wonder if these new GEVO’s will come with the elephant ears over the exhaust manifold.
Will some of them be built at GE Ft. Worth?
Are these locomotives going to be tier-4 compliant???
@Steven Berg Probably not, since Mexico does not have the emission laws like the U.S. does. They’ll most likely be Tier-2 compliant.
And much like CN ES44ACi 2951-2975, they will not be authorized to operate in the US, even if they are way cleaner than hordes of older GE’s and EMD’s currently operating across the border. Go figure.

The Ferrosur 70ACes have elephant ears to draw cooler air due to the radiator setup. EMDs have the radiator fans on the topside. While easier for maintenance to access. They draw warmer air in, which is a poor setup for unventilated tunnels. GE’s draw air from ground level up through the rad. Which is better in tunnel (operation in general) operation due to the cooler air.
