wow,
we have been having this happen for a while. first with dump trucks, then a truck with petroleum.
Does anyone read the Trains Newswire?
I don’t
That’s worse then that explosives truck going of near the UP line. I saw the aftermath on the news; I imagine many surviving townsfolk, families and TFM will be raising some heck. Unfortunately the damage has been done.
There is usually some interesting information in there and it only takes a few minutes.
I don’t know about anyone else but whoever took the picture of the tanker is way to close.

Fines for truck drivers and the owner of truck lines should be greately increased to help try to prevent this type of accident. Fines should also be increased for car and pickups doing the same thing.
If you run a stop sign, stop signal, or crossbucks (most crossbucks I have seen have at least a stop sign by them) you or your survivors should NOT be allowed to sue the railroad. It was YOUR fault you didn’t stop, not the railroads.
Ahh Mexico…Gods blind spot.
I beleive it was a PBS/Discovery/TLC etc show a while back said before the state/railroad/city (whoever) will put crossbucks/guards/serious signage at a crossing there must first be a fatal accident-protection by default-if it ain’t danegrous-don’t gaurd it
Where I grew up every railroad crossing (even out in the country) had a stop sign and a crossbuck. I never saw a train/truck accident at any crossing.
There should never be a lawsuit if a gate comes down and someone drives around it getting hit by the train. The railroads should be the ones winning lawsuits when people disreguard stop/safety devices and a collision occurs.
This was a TFM train, right?

[(-D] Oh, that is too rich! [(-D] That is a good one!
I’m with Jim on this, there should be a much larger fine, and some form of protection on EVERY crossing. Stuff like this shouldn’t happen.
The truck was not loaded with Petroleum , but with Liquid Petroleum Gas ( LPG).

I believe it was a TFM train. Texas units responded based upon a mutual aid agreement.
Yeah, it was a TFM train. It’s certainly TFM trackage. Here’s an interactive map of their lines:

If you click on the area of the map in the vicinity of Matamoros you can get a larger map of that section.

Something needs to be done about people running crossings because truck + train = BOOM. It’s not just what the train hits that could cause a disater. If a car on the train derails… who only knows what could go up. We don’t need another chlorine gas spill, espaically if it resulted from someone running a crossing and getting hit, instead of a switching accident.
