I need some info. This boxar was the 1000th body style and I am wondering if it was in the micro Trains operating display for the Magne-matic uncoupling system. it says “route of the Magne-matics”, “mtl 80”, and “micro trains line”.
Somebody knows what I need to know, because I need to know soon.
Hey Michael…this could be confusing, but here’s what the deal is:
Micro-Trains had that 40’ boxcar that was available only as part of the uncoupling dealer display, which was the car that was #80…I believe that’s the car you have.
Then, due to customer/collector requests, Micro-Trains released a boxcar with the exact same scheme but with car #1000. (To keep it different from the dealer display car.)
Car #1000 was for celebrating Micro-Trains 1000th car release, not the 1000th different body style. If I remember correctly, I believe Micro-Trains just released their 100th different body style fairly recently…a real Micro-Trains collector can correct me if that’s wrong.
So yes there are two very similar cars available, the only difference being the #80 and #1000 road numbers. The #1000 was available to the public like any monthly Micro-Trains car release.
I’m not a collector, but I would think the #80 would be worth more than the #1000.
Hope that helps!
If you go to the MTL website, they are working on their 105th body style. They have recently announced a new car to celebrate their 35th year in business.
You may also find 2 books MTL produced that lists each release. You’d have to hunt down a used book seller or *bay to find one. The books were produced in both hard & soft cover in the 1990’s.
