nice ! i’m going to have to try one in my next spectrum ho 4-6-0 install , might even fit in the spectrum ho shay . at 1" by .5" even the N folks should have some fun with this . walthers.com shows expected date of 15 sept 2007 .
I saw this in an anouncement from Bruce at Litchfield Station
This should make the N scalers happy
Heck it might even fit in my HO Shay
I’m betting this is going to be a real good seller
This is really great news and will give and option of adding sound to a number of locomotives, now could they give us the same option only with diesel sound? It seem’s like they gave up on the diesel tsunami all together. I can’t believe that with the fantastic job that they did with the tsunami steam decoders that they can’t do the same thing with the diesel?
Oh Well! Jim
Yes, this is an active group but do not depend on it for all mrr info. The below link is the Yahoo SoundTraxx group.

I have some 0-6-0T Bachmann I want to use as docksiders. I wonder if this will fit in there? (With a tiny .75" speaker in the cab)
The real problem continues to be the speaker, or should I say lack of space for speakers. Someday amazing quailty electronic sound processors will fit on the head of a pin, but that won’t help the ultimate sound quality produced by a tiny speaker.
That is always a point of discussion. N scale is 160 times smaller than prototype. How would that affect sound level at what distance from the locomotive? Should you be able to hear the engine a couple scale miles from the engine? Don’t forget to always keep in mind the scale of the engine you are listening too. Model railroading is a analogy of the real thing and all analogies break down somewhere. Most model railroads with sound I have listed to are usually too loud. Go to a model railroad show and listen. May people use the same sound level at home or model railroad clubs. This is a good discussion for nit pickers or someone looking for an argument. Of course, our layout progress will suffer as we argue. [:)]

Although I’ve enjoyed listening to Lok Sound and QSI equipped locomotives…I certainly would like to see the Diesel Tsunami! [;)]
As an N scaler, I still think the jury is out on the effectiveness of sound in the smaller stuff. I think the main issue is speaker sound quality as it relates to the size, but there’s the corrallary effect of lost weight in the mechanism as more electro-gizmos are added under the hood.
People are already beefing about the lost tractive effort in the newer Atlas diesels with decoder boards instead of zinc alloy.
I think the ideal situation would be locating a series of speakers under the layout, and using the block detection system to route the sound to the appropriate location.

Wouldnt we all?
Any ways, the Micro Tsunami would be perfect for high quality sound for N scale and smaller HO Steamers.

[#ditto] Steam is nice, but when are they going to go diesel. I could use both if I had the money.
A friend of mine in the techology business emphasized that the demand for steam sound decoders is hot right now, so Soundtraxx is likely concentrating their efforts here. Especially considering that the steam Tsunami has been a big success and apparently quite profitable.
Gentlemen! Gentlemen! Patience! It would seem that the next logical step would to be to put the diesel sound system in the Micro-Tsunami. That way it would be an easy install for all of those narrow hood Alco’s. My bet is that the diesel Tsunami will be out by Christmas. And no, I do not have any inside information.
