Microsoft Train Simulator

How do you create youre own route?

I cant figure it out [:D]

Any help is apreciated

anyone?

I’m afraid I can’t help with that. I know you can down load routes though, from different websites. You might try posting this in the Train Simulator forums in the Trains.com section. Go up to the very top of this page, click on forums, then click on trains.com forums, then on the simulator forums, and post it there, they’ll be able to help you.

There is also a manual out there which tells you how to do it. I will have to hunt down the link on another computer. It is not printed by Microsoft, and I believe you can download it. It runs about $10.

Sybex published a book in 2001 called Microsoft Train Simulator - Official Strategies & Secrets (ISBN: 0-7821-2910-2). The following chapters are:

  • Chapter 8: The Activity Editor: Events (21 pages)
  • Chapter 9: The Activity Editor: Services (31 pages)
  • Chapter 10: The Route Editor (17 pages)

Contact me offline and we can talk.

Yeah get that book, its very helpful.

Can you download it too?

You use the Route Editor that comes with Train Simulator to build a route. It’s a nearly impossible task without some guidance. The Michael Vone Route Editor Guidebook from Abacus (Abacuspub.com) will make the job infinitely less exasperating. It’s a downloadable, zipped *.pdf for about $20. Highly recommended…no, absolutely neccessary for route builders.

Ooops, thats the book I was thinking about, sorry for the confusion.

That’s it. Very helpful.

There are also some freeware tools available at Trainsim.com (AKA All nodes busy.com). You have to register, but it’s free. Once you get in, go to the utilities section and look around. There are some measuring tools and other devices that can help a lot
in your route design. If you try route building, you’ll really come to appreciate the talents of the likes of Rich Garber (Canton) enocell (Newark and New Jersey) and the others.
Best of Luck;

PS the Australian site at http://www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim/ has a great number of tutorials on route building and various other aspects of TrainSim, including the insanity-inducing front coupler issue, x-tracks, and so on. Many very useful free tools
to D/L.
