I have a pair of RH and LH Midwest Cork turnout pads that I am trying to use to create a WYE pad from plain cork sheet (to save money). When I traced the RH and LH pads on a sheet of paper to attempt to develop a template for cutting the cork sheet, the spread of the cork arc (measured from the Altas switch track piece centerline) seems wider as it curves out from the centerline than it needs to be.
The WYE turnout I have is a standard Atlas one and the LR+RH ones are Atlas #4.
Can anyone using the Midwest Products WYE cork switch pad give me their measured dimensions for the one they have?
Don’t have one, but this is what I would do to make a pad for either a switch or wye. Lay the wye on the cork. Take a piece of regular roadbed and bring it up to the end of the three ends of the wye. Mark the width of the road bed and follow along the same distance from the ties along the edges of the wye. Bevel your edges and leave a little extra where the two diverging tracks are.
The Atlas Customline WYE is a #3 frog. It divirges like a #6 in each direction. You are trying to use the Atlas #4(actually a #4.5 turnout) as a pattern - Too Sharp!
I have never used the ‘turnout pads’ , they are pretty generic and really do not follow the turnouts very well. I just use existing cork roadbed material to build them myself. A good razor saw and some time will result in a nice flowing curve.
