Midwestern where is it, no Photos, Clues only.

Four (4) class "A"railroad companies once passed through this city along with at least 3 interurban systems and 2 inclined railways.

Name that city

Enjoy,

Hmmmm…inclined railroads would be somewhere along a river, like the Mississippi?

Duluth?

Dubuque, Iowa?

…Pittsburgh is a good candidate but that’s not mid western so I’ll say Madison, In.

I hope we don’t have to wait until “Monday, Sept. 28” to find out the answer! [;)]

(Interesting–I didn’t know about any inclines along the Midwestern rivers, save for Pittsburgh. Places south of Cairo probably don’t have valleys steep enough to merit inclined railways.)

As for a guess, I’ll ask about Cincinnati. Oops, too many railroads back then!

Pssssst: Just a hint-several posts above this, I think he did say it was on the Mississippi.[;)]

Hmmm, two inclined railroads, four class 1s, three interurbans. I’m betting it’s gotta be somewhere in Minnesota on the Mississippi; maybe it’s Winona?

I meant to say monday August 28th

Ding, ding, ding.

We have a winner!!

The Illinois Central, Milwaukee Road, Burlington Northern, & Chicago Great Western are the 4 class “A” roads

The interurban lines (that I am aware of) Key City Elect. St. Ry. Co., the Dubuque Light & Traction Co., and the Union Electric Co.

the 2 Incline Railways: the Fenlon Place Elevator and the Eleventh Street Elevator.

The Fenlon place elevator is the oldest continuously operating Funicular in America. see the link for more info. http://www.dbq.com/fenplco/ you can still get a round trip for $2.

Well done Trailryder.[tup] I figured when MP173 Ed said Dubuque, that he had the answer. Good job Ed. (Now how about that 15 diamond question?)
