Greetings,

Just happened to catch this announcement on Trainorders.Com. It looks like Milw #261 with be coming home again in 2006.

"For the first time since its restoration to service in 1993, Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 No. 261 will pull a series of excursions out of the Milwaukee Road’s hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The trips will be operated in June 2006 with the cooperation of Canadian Pacific Railway and Amtrak. The train will include four fully restored former Milwaukee Road passenger cars: Pioneer Limited sleeper “Minnesota River,” business car “Montana,” “Super Dome 53” and Skytop observation car “Cedar Rapids”.

The first excursion of the series will operate on Wednesday, June 21, when 261 will pull a one-way positioning move from Minneapolis to Milwaukee. This train will make all the regular Amtrak stops as it travels east over the former Milwaukee Road main line and passengers will be allowed to board at these stops. On the evening of Friday, June 23, the 261 will pull a special round trip dinner train excursion from the former Milwaukee Road Station in downtown Milwaukee to Sturtevant, Wisconsin. At Sturtevant the train will be turned for the return to Milwaukee. On Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, 261 will pull a round trip excursion from Milwaukee to Wisconsin Dells. After unloading passengers at Wisconsin Dells, the train will continue on to New Lisbon, where it will be turned for the return to the Dells and Milwaukee. The Milwaukee-Wisconsin Dells round trip and Wisconsin Dells-New Lisbon round trips will be sold as separate excursions.

Wonderful news! Thanks, Keith.

Yea that sounds like a really cool thing maybe I’ll be able to get a chance to ride on this train for the.First time I do remember back what 10-15 years ago when it came though milwaukee on that trip but I was to young to even remember how big the train was but to me it was the coolest thing that. I ever saw in my life next to the first time I got to ride on an amtrak train which was really cool to me to. I will go to that web site tonight when I get home from work.

I hope their not charginf premium to ride in the Cedar Rapids…its not very good inside…
I wonder if its coming to Duluth again?

I will be out to Photograph at least one of these trips. I have been in the Cedar Rapids when it was at the Milwaukee Art Musuem and it was nice but I’d much rather ride in there new Super Dome which I have seen in person.

Keith

Thanks for the notice.

Time to order up extra cards and batteries for the Rebel.

Now-If we could only get the historic speed limits…

Jay

Do you suppose someone from Cedar Rapids can get a discount on tickets to ride in the Cedar Rapids?[:D]

Blast! I’ll be in Germany!

Decisions, decisions … that’s the same weekend as Galesburg Railroad Days.
I’ll just have to ask myself … what would Bergie do?
Dave Nelson

I’m sure Galesburg will win for me. I just hope it’s close to 100 degrees again. You know how I like golfing when it’s hot! [:o)]

Cool. maybe I’ll be able to ride one of them.
