Milw 261 Steams around Wisconsin

Nope they had to changeout #74 for #75 for the trip back.

Nice shots all of you that posted!

I caught the thing on Saturday as well on the Wisconsin Dells-New Lisbon leg of the trip. So far I’ll I’ve got up on the internet are my two best shots from the day:

261 makes his entrance to Wisconsin Dells at Bowman Rd, just east of the Dells

Here the steamer works his way back southbound after turning at New Lisbon.

I’ve got a bunch more shots of the thing, but I’ve yet to get them up on the internet. It was pretty cool chasing the thing, although it’s too bad it just wasn’t a little sunnier. But, I’ll take what I can get when it comes to a Steam Train…

I rode the Dells-New Lisbon turn on Sunday as well, as was it ever cool riding behind a stead train, even if it is just in coach. Next time I’ll have to spend a little more money and ride it in Premium Class as well, as it would be awesome to ride in the Cedar Rapids and the Super Dome.

You guys in Wisconsin have know idea how lucky you are to have that kind of thing happening. Down here in Texas there hasen’t been any thing in years. The last thing that was real good in the Ft. Worth area was when 3985 came through several years ago. Before that it was the UPs Es with a train from Ft. Worth to Weatherford and back. Of course that one was real easy for me to video and photo as the UP track cuts our ranch in half. No problem with anyone getting after us when you’re on your own property.

My appalogies guys. Thanks for the great photos. I’m at work so have a high speed hook otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to view them. I’m from Milwaukee. I spent my younger years by the C&NW main out north in Shorewood. I guess that must have infected me.

I saw it leaving Milwaukee Station on Sunday, a truely beautiful machine. Haha, I was actually down in the Third Ward across the river from the Amtrak station having lunch at a bistro when I heard the steam wistle. I had no idea that the engine was in town, but that wistle, it’s a sound that will get any train fan running.

Cheers!

Noah,

Great Shots, I have a couple of shots of #261 on the wye at New Lisbon on Sunday. I was there with my Dad, who rode from Milwaukee to Wisconsin Dells. Then we drove with a couple of others to New Lisbon to see them turn the train.
