Milwaukee Road 261 group plans fall excursions

Its kind of a bummer they can not run on the old MILW main line. maybe next year she will run more trips, into Chicago.

With Hunter Harrison in charge at CP, I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

No doubt there are good reasons for this not happening again, but one of the nicest rides behind #261 back when was the MRHS convention (annual meeting) in Montevideo, Minn. along the Milwaukee main westbound from MSP, formerly double track, operated by TCW. The whole thing felt just right and it was.

I sure wish 261 were an oil burner instead of a coal burner because then it might be able to someday roam west (read far west) on BNSF and get shown off to a lot of people who will never get to go back east to see her. Maybe powering some employee appreciation specials or just selling rides on a long excursion to say, Seattle or Portland. They have the cars, and who knows, they might even be able to make some money on the deal. Wish, wish, wish…
