milwaukee road 261

in the febuary 2010 issue there is some sad news for us 261 fans[sigh]. she is being retired again[soapbox]. she will be missed big boy

Ya it’s unfortunate, certainly makes our neighbors in Cheeseland look bad. If you do a search, you’ll see there have been several threads going on this subject, including some interesting speculation on what steam engine the Friends of 261 might try to get to replace it.

its old news already as the rumors are flying the engine has been sold. This possibility could keep the engine in service if true and get its needed boiler inspection done.

Ya I just heard this rumor of a sale to someone in California this morning. I wonder if the buyer wanted to operate it in excursion service how long it would take for 261 to be ready to go?? It went into the shops in late 2008 for a 15-year rebuild that was expected to take at least a year, I don’t know how far they got before the Green Bay issue came up and they stopped work.
