When did the MILW discontinue the Chippewa and Copper County Limited? They ran between Chicago and points in Upper Michigan.
The Copper Country Ltd. came off in March 1968, according to this:http://www.michiganrailroads.com/RRHX/NamedTrains/CopperCountryLtd(MILW).htm
I believe the Chippewa came off around 1958.
According to that same website, which is fascinating, the Chippewa was hacked to death over several years, the last of it disappearing on Jan. 1, 1954.
My December 1959 Official Guide shows the Chippewa still running between Chicago and Channing. At that time it still carried a “lunch coach” as well as coaches.
PS: The train was absent from my Dec. 1960 Official Guide
Per Jim Scribbins’ “The Hiawatha Story”, Chippewa No 21 made its last run on Feb. 1, 1960; No 14 tied up for the last time on Feb. 2, 1960.
The Copper Country trains (Nos 9 and 10) made their last departures on March 7, 1968.
