I got a call last week from the present-day Union Dry Dock Co.
that they had two rail cars for donation and we were the group
(WNYRHS) to contact.
The boat LANDSDOWN is at their dock with two ex-Milwaukee
Road round-end observation cars which have to be removed so
the boat can be remade into a restuarant and towed to
Toronto, Canada.
I informed the president of the company that I just authored
a history of the drydock when the Erie owned it, 1870-1910.
He knew the drydock had a storied history but never that it
was owned by the Erie. He gave us full run of the yard. We
checked the condition of the cars and have yet to make a decision.
The yard still has track in it and could be reconnented to
the Buffalo Creek track if nescessary. The dry docks are
filled in but could be dug out. Work is now done at the river’s edge.

Th
James, they look A LOT better then they use to. The Landsdown was a resturant on the Detroit River in the same city for a number of years (I am 31 and I can remember them as a little kid). I thought the cars and carferry (as thats what it is) had been cut up years ago. I seem to recall it having been damaged by ice one severe winter, but I may be wrong. It is kinda nice to see it again.
