Milwaukee Road locos

I am interested in buying the athearn series heavyweight passenger cars. The question is–what locomotive was used for these cars.I have a Milwaukee Road FP45,but this may be too new for these cars.Am I correct?

If you can, find a member of the Milwaukee Road Historical Society and borrow some of his/her quarterly magazines. From the photos, you should have a variety of locos used with he heavyweight cars.

Hope this helps.

Correct, you would be mixing eras (FP-45s were
not used with heavyweight passenger cars). I posted the question on the MILW group on Yahoo! and the feedback is to use steam: Mallett or W4 Mikado or Northern.

Hi, I’m a little late, but other info I have…Electrics were used on Lines West, Westinghouse Motors, also in the late thirties, early 40’s early EMD FT locos were used on lines west due to coal strike. Prior I have info on F6 Steam pulling the Hiawathas, The first Olympian into Harlowton Montana was pulled by an F-4, May 30, 1911, most of the F-4’s were sent back East after electrification was completed F4 's operated until 1952. the F4’s were Pacific type 4-6-2, there were 25 of them in the pool, built by the MILW in Milwaukee in 1910. Hope this helps. FP 45 Locos were not used in passenger for long, they were very rough riding and were used primarily in freight. they came along in the early 70’s
