Milwaukee Road Memories!

One of my best memories was going over to the Bensonville Yards with my old partner and getting a pass from one of the head bosses to sit in the hump tower and watch cars being sorted. Heck, they even wanted us to pull pins to help out. This was in the mid '70’s. We were young guns (5 year police officers) who dreamed more of the railroad than our own jobs. The Milwaukee Road will always live in my heart!

BTW: I am a Milwaukee Road nut.

Here in my hometown of Appleton Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Road ran over the Fox River on a water level bridge with a bridge tender to turn the bridge for barge traffic coming down the river. This same line also ran through a cemetary! in the Town of Menasha. All that is left of the bridge is the concrete pier on the south side of the river. The line still runs through the cemetary and is now owned by the Canadian National to serve a paper printing plant and recycled paper plant.
