I have searching all over the internet for pictures or maps of the Milwaukee Road Tacoma tidefalts yard to no avail, I find pictures of the round house area and really need to know what the whole yard looked like for a little project I am doing. If you could help that would be great.
Whell, I wasn’t alive when that existed but I have some pics of ol’ half moon yard in Tacoma if you want that.
Ah, I love this port. Have you searched under “Port of Tacoma,” “Tacoma Belt Line,” and “Tacoma Rail”? Also try the Puget Sound Railroad Engineers, http://www.psmre.org/index.html. They have an extensive layout and may be able to point you to maps or photos. The main Tacoma library has a large collection of local documents if you’re able to travel out that way. Finally, if you use one of the Internet programs to find modern yards. www.topozone.com will give you topographic maps, while Google Maps will give you a close-up satellite view. From these you can make your own maps. It is somewhat difficult, but have used these tools to find long-defunct right-of-ways and make my own maps of railroads that have long vanished from the scene.
