This is a good thing. While the emphasis has been on steam locomotives, let’s remember that diesels are worthy of preservation also.
Great to see this! An appropriate location since the U-Boats worked out west considerably.
Great preservation work here! A few corrections, “haul” should be “hall.” The CRF is acquiring the 10200 from Duluth? They want to get rid of it? Unclear and surprising.
Great news, I love these old boats!
Thanks for the photo!
Good to see an old Milwaukee unit repatriated. Too bad it sounds as though it will be “stuffed and mounted” if the prime mover is able to be restored to operation and the electricals are still good. As for the 10200 electric, I, too would be surprised to see it leave Duluth. It’s one of the centerpieces of the LSRM, displayed right next to their DMIR Yellowstone.
Since the Milwaukee electrics never operated in Minnesota, Washington seems to be a more appropriate place for it. I agree it would be nice if it could be operated again.
great to see its going to be saved
Preserving any locomotive or rolling stock of the Milwaukee Road is vitality important in this day and age, the new generation was not around when the Milwaukee Road was still in operation. Continuing development at Cle Elum, WA is also a vital step. Growing up here in WA state, the Milwaukee Road was an important network mainly of numerous branch lines, one of which was near my home and I photographed both branch line and mainline operations up until the end.
TRAINS provided some wonderful coverage of Milwaukee Road’s departure from the Pacific Northwest. I forget who wrote the articles, but the photography was outstanding, the coverage of the last three or four weeks comprehensive – worth looking up if you have retained your old issues (as most of us do, or should do).
If it has to be trucked part of the way, does that mean there is no rail access to the display site? If that’s the case, what’s the point of making it operable? Or conversely, if they’re going to make it operable, why then park it where it will have nowhere to operate?
Hooray, another of only a handful of remaining U25Bs preserved. Make it Run!
Be happy to welcome you back home. The folks in South Cle Elum are doing a fine job.
