Milwaukee station WIP

Hi,

Here are some work in progress pictures of my new station. I will try to get some better pictures tomorrow in daylight. They will have to for now.

The roof looks different on each side because I’m at an experimental stage. I sure wouldn’t mind if you have an opinion which looks better. Their is a lot still to go so I do not need to be told that.

The two pictures at the top is without flash and makes the roof look most normal. That is the way it looks rather then the other ones which came out weird.

Walther’s have outdone themselves with this wonderful kit.

Looking great! Quick question…what are you going to do for the interior?

David B

Thanks, it’s the best kit I’ve ever done. A few things I which they had done differently but I will post those ideas later.

My goal is to make full interior. I have help from a guy on this forum that helps me create walls and so. I will put in benches and interior walls and of course lights.

Without it it will never look good. Their is just to many windows making it to visually obvious that it is just a shell.

Magnus

In the mean time, you could just install some view blocks.

David B

That’s the plan. The guy helping me have been able to show me a drawing of the floor plan so I will use that as a guide.

Eventually, I want to put in lighting and interiors on many of my structures but since I have a large layout, if I did this with each structure I build, I might never get done. Detailed interiors require a good deal of time to do right. I want to get the layout built and view blocks are a great time saving measure. I use the same technique that I see on several Woodland Scenics built up kits. Black paper view blocks run diagonally from one corner to the other, crisscrossing in the middle. This completely hides the fact that a building is just and empty shell. I bought a couple pieces of black construction paper and put these on virtually all my structures. You don’t notice them because you really can’t see into buildings at all.

That is a good idea. Right now my layout room is still a woodshed. I’m waiting for spring until I can redo it into a layout room. So now I got time to do it. I’m still waiting for benches I ordered two months ago!

Magnus

Ok,

Here are som better pics. Still a lot to go, this building is huge. But it’s worth the effort.

Magnus

Thats a beautiful model Magnus

Thank you very much. It will be so sweet on the layout with four sheds behind it and lightning at night!

Magnus

I compared this model with the IC station in Chicago and its a close match as far as structure design goes. I may buy it and re-arrange parts to make the IC station (now torn down)

Lillen - Great model, but isn’t that cute little blonde a little out of scale for the station?![(-D]

Thanks,

But you are of course wrong about the huge blond. You see my prototype is the land of Lilliput and that is Gulliver. I’m not done with all the details yet since it’s hard to find prototype pictures but I’m working on it. I sure hope no rivet counter comes along and says that Gulliver was brown haired instead of a blond. That would sure mess up a lot of scratch building. You know, I started with just one cell and built it along with my wife who contributed another cell to make what I consider the finest miniature in the world, well the older experiment we tried two years earlier turned out pretty good to. I don’t think my wide will let me toss the model in the garbage anyways! [:D]
