Milwaukee Terminal Railroad debuts

Milwaukee has a new railroad.

The Milwaukee Terminal Railroad is being billed as an alternative to long-distance trucking, according to its owners, Milwaukee Industrial Trade Center LLC.

The new terminal is at the old A.O. Smith/Tower Automotive plant in the area of N. 27th and W. Hopkins streets.

The terminal railroad will provide truck-to-rail/rail-to-truck trans-loading and storage services to customers who do not own local rail sidings.

According to the company, goods and commodities often pass through Wisconsin on rail to terminals in Chicago and the Twin Cities, but are often transported back to Wisconsin by truck. The new railroad should help lower shipping costs and, its supporters hope, attract new business to the 30th St. corridor.

Hopefully, it will work.

They have their own RS2 to bang cars around with. Hopefully it works as well. It has been sitting there for a year or three.

Should keep the WSOR crews in Milwaukee a little busier, being the Terminal’s only connection to the rail system.
