Mine cars for a coal mine on a Hi-Rail 0 layout, what to use?

For those of you who operate hi-rail and model coal or other types of mines on your layout. What are you using for the mine cars? The mine jennies that came with the K-line set are actually too large. Do you use HO ore cars, or HO hoppers cut in half, or something else I haven’t thought of yet, perhaps an On30 product? Thanks in advance for your replies. Dave North Schuylkill High Railers, modeling Anthracite Coal Country in Hi-rail 0 in the steam era. 24’ x 55’ multi level conventional, tmcc and now dcs also.

Check the Walthers catalogue. They have, had, On30(or maybe it was 36) mine car kits.

have you checked out the K-Line porter/plymouth sets?

JusTrains had them in WM livery at the last couple York shows for I think $75. I’ll post a pic of mine later today.

Our set up is/will be multi gauge. The mine itself will use On18–O scale on 9mm/N gauge track for the actully ore trains out of the mine drift. They will run on a tipple to dump into On30 ore cars. The On30 will be brought down the mountain to another tipple where they will be dumped into standard gauge cars. As of now, the On18 remains unbuilt, but teh On30 “main” is in place and undergoing tweaking/testing.

As I have a fetish for reliability and the smallest gauge will be the hardest to get to, the dumping will be entirely theoretical, but all three gauges will interact in that fashion.

If you were doing American Flyer I would reccomend this:
