Mining car track ??

I have several mining cars from Durango Press. How do you lay track for these? If you have them could you post a pic of them?

THANKS

MIKE

Mike,

Is this, what you are, referring to?

It states, that it is 18 inch gauge track Z-Scale maybe? That may even,be too large, I’m just guessing, I havn’t seen Z-Scale track,up close. Most pic’s of mines, that I ever saw, had the ties, spread far apart. Have Fun.

Mike,

I just had a after thought about track. Maybe Plastruct, I beams,or T beams, for the track, CA to the ties?

Great idea there Rich! Many years ago I used the track and a couple of gondolas from a small battery operated trainset on a mine scene.

The Grandt track that Rich cited is what I use around my mines. It is 18" gauge – or pretty darn close by my eye. It’s gonna take a very tiny battery-powered loco to actually run on this stuff, with close to scale flanges. All mine are hand- or mule-powered.

Also, note that this set of track also comes included with the Grandt Wentamuck Mine kit, 300-5902.

Thank you all for the great idea’s. I probably don’t want the cars to move (with a loco).

I was looking at these also, but not sure if it’s 18 gage

8500,

Great link! I bookmarked that one.

I’m guessing that’s all 18" gauge. The tram cars say “18 guage” and I’m pretty sure they’re not talking about wire gauge, although I don’t know why they’d drop the ".

Mike,

If you would like to see a lot of coal mine shots and activity, also a great movie, in early Pennsylvania, check out,the DVD, ‘‘The Molly Maguire’s’’ with Sean Connery, have always, liked that movie. Even has early steam, coal trains in it. Maybe further East than you want, but a good movie non the less.

[8-|]Dumbest sight I ever saw. I am still trying to figure out how to place an order

The Grandt Line track is OK, but, in minefanning several coal mines, all the turnouts I saw (except those on a 762mm gauge gob tramway) were of the single-point type. Just a straight rail, pivoted where the frog would be, and a hard kink in the stock rail for the diverging route. Since the motive power was a pair of 0-5-0s (with attached miner) the abrupt change in direction was no problem.

When I lay the tracks at my collieries I expect to slot the ties and roadbed and push flat metal in until it’s the right height above the tie tops. The tramways aren’t intended to operate - I haven’t figured out how to motorize a 1:80 scale miner.[:-^]

Just a little. But at least they didn’t ask you to take pen in hand and write them. I’d have no trouble ordering from them – If I had the funds.[(-D]

I saw that, buy were is the place that shows an email were to send the item numbers to???

Mike,

Well, they really think you must want to dig around until you find it. It wasn’t easy. Go to this link:

Then in the lower left corner of the graphic at the top of the page is a sign with yellow (gold?) lettering that says “RRB, Fast Mail.” Click that and it triggers your email program to generate a message to them by opening a Compose window with their emaill address already filled in.

I think I know how old this website design is…

Mike, You could try the Bowser site, and look for Selley details They have mine track, both curved and straight, and even switches. They also have a miner pushing a cart (with track). The castings are unpainted white metal, so you’ll have some fun painting them. Sorry, no flex track… [:D]
