Mining rail tracks

What happens when a broken track is replaced and a new rail is now jointed to a worn rail?what could the consequences and the solutions be?

The procedure on Rhodesia Rail was to lift the broken section of track out with the sleepers and simply replace it with a new length. There would be very little difference between the new track height and the old as the track steel gets tougher the more it is rolled over. The EAR did not use sectional track and they lifted and relaid individual rails as required.
