Minnesota rail preservationist Jim Machacek dies

I’m truly sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. He was a good friend and a great benefactor and supporter of the Midwest Central in Iowa. Jim was always happy to share his vast knowledge of railroading in particular and life in general with others. I always looked forward to visiting with him during his annual visit to Mt. Pleasant.

I echo Chris Pacha’s comments. Jim was always ready and able to “talk railroads”. He was a kind and generous man.

I am also sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. Railroading has lost a tremendous amount knowledge and expertise. I always enjoyed our conversations on railroading and steam power. He will truly be missed.
